Auburn-Washburn USD 437
On April 21 the Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation held its Ninth Annual Spring Breakfast. The breakfast brought in approximately $18,000 in donations for the USD 437 school district. We would like to thank everyone who attended and those who donated.

Several Staff members were recognized for awards they received for the 2009-2010 school year.

Elaine Pardee - WRHS Science Department Chair
Elaine is the 2009 Siemens Foundation Award Winning Teacher for Advanced Placement. This award recognizes one teacher in each state with exemplary teaching and is dedicated to their students in STEM AP courses (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Elaine earned $1,000 for the high school's math and science departments.

Ashley Beason - WRMS Journalism Teacher
Ashley is a Horizon Award Winning teacher this year. The Horizon Award recognizes exemplary first-year teachers who have distinguished themselves as outstanding. Ashley is 1 of 32 teachers in Kansas who were recognized this year.

Suzy Oertel - WRHS English Instructor
Suzy became a National Board Certified teacher this year. National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential. Candidates complete 10 assessments that are reviewed by trained teachers in their certificate areas. They must complete 4 portfolio entries featuring teaching practice and 6 constructed response exercises that assess content knowledge.

Marlene McDaniel - WRMS Special Education Instructor
Marlene became a National Board Certified teacher this year. National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential. Candidates complete 10 assessments that are reviewed by trained teachers in their certificate areas. They must complete 4 portfolio entries featuring teaching practice and 6 constructed response exercises that assess content knowledge.

Marlene is also our district nominee for Master Teacher. She will go on and compete for Kansas Master Teacher of the Year.

Amy Johnston - Auburn Elementary Kindergarten Teacher
Amy is the district nominee for Elementary Teacher of the Year. She will go on and compete for Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Mike Steinert - WRHS Science Teacher
Mike is the district nominee for Secondary Teacher of the Year. He will go on and compete for Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Diana Detwiler - Pauline South Counselor
Diana is the District's Certified Support Staff winner.

Karen Keefover - Pauline South Paraeducator
Karen is the District's Elementary Classified Support Staff winner.

Janice Overley - WRMS Paraeducator
Janice is the District's Secondary Classified Support Staff winner.
