Foundation Art Show & Breakfast in April

Art from students at Washburn Rural High School will be on display at Southwind Gallery beginning Friday April 4th. Earlier this year the Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation sponsored a professional local artist to work with the students in the classroom. Student work initiated and inspired by that visit will be displayed at the show. Other student and staff work will also be included in the show. Some of the art will be for sale as a fundraiser for the Foundation.

On April 23rd the Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation will hold its Seventh Annual Spring Breakfast. Washburn University Law School Dean Thomas Romig will deliver an address. Auburn-Washburn Superintendent Dr. Brenda Dietrich will also deliver her "State of the District" message and there will be musical performances by district students. The public is invited. Proceeds from the Breakfast are used to fund Classroom Grant projects throughout the district. The Breakfast is held at the Topeka Holidome and begins at 7:30.

What is the Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation and how did it form?

Early In 1996, a group of parents from the 437 School District began meeting to explore a common vision: to create a non-profit organization to support educational programs In the 437 School District. This vision became reality with the incorporation of the Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation In October 1997.

What is the purpose of the Foundation?

The purpose of the foundation is to provide an alternative means to enhance, enrich and expand educational programs for our district youth not otherwise available through normal district funding. Our mission is to help ensure that the highest quality educational experience is provided to the youth, family, and patrons of our district.

What is the makeup of the Foundation's Board of Directors?

According to the Bylaws, the Board of Directors will consist of up to 18 members. These include businessmen and women, lawyers, educators, technicians, fundraisers and parents from all corners of the district. These people have invested their time, resources and talents toward enriching the educational climate of our community.
