The Auburn-School District consists of 128 square miles of suburban and rural areas. Our patrons reside in city neighborhoods, rural home sites, small towns, farms, and everything in-between. Commitment to excellent schools is the common thread that runs through the diverse areas of the district.

Success for all Students
Our schools reflect
the commitment to excellence evident in our community. Above all we want every student to succeed. If academic achievement is an indicator of success we are reaching our goal. Washburn Rural Middle School (Grades 7-8)
Our State Blue Ribbon award-winning middle school was designed from the ground up to support a true middle school concept. Students and staff are divided into teams to make the transition from elementary to the secondary level easier.

Washburn Rural High School (Grades 9-12)
Undeniably one of the state’s finest high schools. We offer a wide range of instruction via a unique flexible schedule. This college-like program allows students to better focus on challenging subjects while providing access to individualized faculty assistance. Students have opportunities for advanced placement and other college credit courses. The school is well-known for its extracurricular activities, from debate to swimming to soccer, consistently winning state championships. You will find national caliber forensics and music programs here also. A Washburn Rural High School diploma has been a catalyst for achievement throughout the world. Nearly 90% of our students pursue post-secondary education.

Washburn Rural Alternative High School (Grades 9-12)
We know that not all students learn in the same way at the same rate. So we have developed an alternative to the traditional high school. Students here are challenged in unique ways and have unique opportunities to demonstrate their abilities. This program is open to any student in Kansas regardless of the district they live in.

Staff
No one cares more about students than the staff in the Auburn-Washburn Schools. Almost half the faculty here hold a Masters Degree or higher. When it comes to staff earning awards for excellence, we lead the area. We have an aggressive staff development process and provide teachers with the resources they need in the classroom.

Small Diverse Classes
We know the value of small class sizes. The average size of elementary classes in Auburn-Washburn is 19 students. Our diverse classrooms include new students from 30 different states and 5 foreign countries each year

Early Learning and Special Programs
We provide services to help the learning process begin when children are very young. Our Parents as Teachers program shows parents how to be the first teacher to their child. We also have preschool programs for students with special needs as well as students who need extra help preparing for school. We have special services to meet the needs of students who face obstacles to learning and those who need additional challenges. Many of these programs operate within our regular programs. Our curriculum for gifted children provides added enrichment opportunities within each school. For working parents, before and after -school care is available in or adjacent to all elementary schools.

Safety
When it comes to keeping our schools safe we believe prevention is the key. The Auburn-Washburn schools encourage an attitude of respect among our diverse student population. We have an experienced staff of counselors and school psychologists to support the students and reinforce the idea of community in our schools. We have invested in safety monitoring, planning, and response capabilities. Our students are here to learn and they serve as advocates for our safe schools.

Facilities & Technology
Our state-of-the-art campuses are second to none with modern air-conditioned buildings. We have a 45-acre outdoor environmental area and extensive facilities for extracurricular activities. We were the first school in the area to place a computer in every classroom of every building and we have our own fiber-optic network. Our schools are equipped with computer and technology laboratories staffed by technology specialists.

Transportation
Bus service is available to all students in the district. Our drivers are among the best you will find anywhere. We operate our own fleet of modern, well-maintained busses.

Something for Everyone
Even if you do not have a child in school we have something to offer. Gymnasiums, auditoriums, and meeting facilities are available for use by groups in the community. Many of our computer labs have open periods for patron use. Our mission is to empower all citizens, and we are always looking for ways to share our resources with the community.

Auburn-Washburn Public Schools Foundation
The district is fortunate to have an organization which helps supplement our mission. The Foundation is committed to enhancing, enriching, and expanding the educational opportunities of our students through classroom grants to help make unique projects possible.
