Welcome to the Auburn-Washburn School District. We are a high-performing school district located in the southwest section of Topeka which combines conveniently located shopping centers, theaters, and business offices with a rural character.

Our community is committed to maintaining modern, state-of-the-art facilities. In fact we are currently underway with the largest school enhancement program in Shawnee County history. We pride ourselves on being the leader in academics, arts, and technology. The current enhancements will strengthen that position.

Our basic commitment is Inspiring and Challenging Every Child, Every Day. The Auburn-Washburn School Board has made small class size a priority to support learning at the youngest levels. Our class sizes in grades k-3 average 19 students. We have modern technology labs in every elementary building and an Outdoor Environmental Lab for hands-on science lessons that is utilized by all of our schools. We were the first district in Shawnee County to offer a developmentally appropriate full-day kindergarten program in all elementary buildings.

Washburn Rural Middle School is organized into grade level teams and students are allowed to explore many elective offerings prior to entering high school. Our Middle School Program is a well-balanced mix of rigorous coursework in a nurturing environment with extracurricular clubs and activities available as we strive to educate the whole child.

Washburn Rural High School has an outstanding reputation in the state of Kansas. We have many students who have achieved academic and athletic excellence. We consistently lead the area school districts in National Merit Finalists and Commended Students. Our students have also excelled in athletics as evidenced by the number of state championships we have won over the past several years. A diverse environment exists in our district due in part to the number of students moving here each year from other states and nations. International and foreign exchange students at the high school total 23, representing 11 different countries.

The Auburn-Washburn School District is committed to continuous school improvement. If you want to be associated with very progressive and academically challenging schools we invite you to learn more about us by visiting any of our schools in person or online.
