Children should always use a backpack or school bag to carry everything so they will not drop or lose items along the way to school.

Bright colored clothing will make your child more visible to drivers. Attaching a piece of fluorescent or retro-reflective material to their clothing will also enhance their visibility -- especially in the early morning hours in the winter.

Make certain children leave home with enough time to walk to the bus stop and arrive before the bus is due. Students are requested to be at the bus stop five (5) minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time.
Do not allow your children to play running games or push and shove while at the bus stop. It is extremely dangerous near traffic.
Children should remain 6 feet away from the bus until the driver indicates it is okay to enter. At this distance, children will be able to see the driver and the driver will be able to see them. If your children must cross the street to board the bus, instruct them to wait until the driver signals that it is safe to cross. Students should keep their eyes on the driver when crossing in front of the bus!

Children should be warned to NEVER pick something up if they drop it near the bus. They should tell the bus driver and then follow the driver's instructions to retrieve the item. If a child bends over to pick up something, the bus driver may not be able to see the child who could then be hurt as the driver pulls away from the stop.

Always remind children to look to the RIGHT before they exit the bus. Drivers of other vehicles could try to illegally pass on the right side.

If you wait for your child after school, be certain to wait on the side of the street where your child will be dropped off.
