Superintendent's Message

By Dr. Brenda S. Dietrich, Superintendent of Schools

The month of March is such an exciting time of year in education! It signals the beginning of much warmer weather, sunny days, Spring Break, and, hopefully, the end of flu season!

For those administering state tests and Terra Nova’s, the finish line is getting closer! But for some staff, the start of fourth quarter on March 24th signals how quickly the year will be over and how much work is still left to be done! In my office, it became clear how quickly this year is ending when we noticed that after the Board meeting on Monday, March 24th, we only have four BOE meetings left before the last day of school.

April will be a big month for us. We expect to break ground on the new elementary school, which will be a very visual reminder of what needs to be accomplished before the fall of 2009.

Work on Wanamaker Road will continue into the start of the 2008-2009 school year. Then we will have a break until it starts up again. Only three years until it is all complete!. Speaking of road construction, the Shuler Education Center sign that was on the corner of 53rd and Wanamaker is being re-built, courtesy of the gas company. The original brick and stone sign collapsed during pipe installation for the construction of the roundabout and widening of Wanamaker.

Lastly and most important, I would like to thank all of you for the tremendous job you are doing to provide a first-class educational experience for our students. I continue to be impressed by the quality of instruction, the cleanliness of the buildings, and the warm, friendly atmosphere evident by the smiles and welcomes extended by all that I meet. Our patrons often comment to me when I am at programs or community meetings how very grateful they are to be a part of such a great school district. You should all be very proud of what you are accomplishing.

I hope I don’t ruin the positive image you have created on April 10th when I will be teaching Amy Ives’s 5th grade class at Wanamaker Elementary. Amy won the “United Way Free-Day-Off “ raffle this year. I hope I have enough stamina to make it through the day!

Please enjoy Spring Break and come back refreshed and ready to begin 4th quarter!
